What Sonar Pro Is Used For

Sonar Pro is the depth tier of Perplexity's own lineup. The launch announcement positioned it for advanced search workloads, and the model documentation credits it with double the search results of standard Sonar. Pro Search behavior arrived for it in November 2025 per the changelog.

In practice it powers the searches where users or developers choose quality over speed: complex questions, multi-source comparisons and API products that need wider evidence per answer.

Retrieval and Citation Behaviour

Twice the retrieved results means twice the candidates per answer, which cuts both ways for SEO. Your page has more chances to enter the evidence pool on any given query, and more competition once it is there. The engine still composes a short answer with a handful of numbered citations, so selection remains the battle.

Deeper retrieval favors substance. Pages that add something the other twenty candidates do not, original data, first-hand specifics, honest comparisons, survive wide pools; thin syntheses of the same consensus get crowded out.
